I’ve been exposed to, and enjoyed, many new things over the course of homeschooling. Shakespeare and poetry, to name two. I’m most of the way through the Iliad, and loving it. (Although it is a bit too violent in places!) But now I’m starting something else new: Dante’s Inferno! There is a Facebook community for the Expanding Wisdom blog that is reading this book over the year. So the weekly selections are really short, which will make it easier to stay on pace. So far I’ve read Canto One, and I’m enjoying it. Here’s one of the quotes I liked:
The hour was morning at the break of dawn;
the sun was mounting higher with those stars
that shone beside him when Love Divine
In the beginning made their beauty move,
and so they were a cause of hope for me
to get free of that beast of flashy hide —
Because the dawn brings me hope as well.
